Keno’s History

Keno was introduced in two hundred BC by the Chinese army leader, Cheung Leung who used this game as a finance resource for his failing forces. The city of Cheung was at war, and after a bit of war time seemed to be looking at a country wide famine with the drastic drop in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to develop a quick fix for the economic adversity and to create money for his forces. He, as it follows designed the game we know today as keno and it was a fantastic success.

Keno was well-known as the White Pigeon Game, due to the fact that the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from larger cities to the lesser towns. The lotto ‘Keno’ was brought to the US in the 1800s by Chinese newcomers who came to the US to work. In those times, Keno was played with one hundred and twenty numbers.
